Come and join us in Celebrating
Yaldhurst Museum's 40th Anniversary.
If you are looking for
things to do in Christchurch, and interested in
classic cars
and other forms of road transport, you will really enjoy a visit to
Yaldhurst Museum.
The museum is committed to offering
visitors a full and
rich experience of
New Zealands technological past and has a unique, rural setting, close to the centre of Christchurch and
International Airport.
Our displays reflect real character and atmosphere that excites memories of the past.
In addition to over 400 vehicles the museum collects other material relating to transport. Unlike most museums,
Yaldhurst is unique
and owes its special character to its history.
The collection is housed on the original family property, the
homestead
of which
was built in 1876.
The
Yaldhurst Museum has amassed an eclectic mix of road transport including one of the largest
and finest collection of horse drawn vehicles in the country.
There is possibly the oldest vehicle in New Zealand, an American buggy of 1810, a unique 1860 Phaeton and an 1866
glass sided Hearse said to have carried the body of former Prime Minister, Richard Seddon.
The extensive
collection of motor
vehicles
includes one of the oldest surviving hand fire pumps (1864), a six cylinder
Leyland fire engine thought to be the only engine of this model left in the world, a unique International
with a coupe body (1938), one of only five manufactured.
The museum venue is often used by bridal couples for wedding photos and we offer competitive car storage.
With over 150 automobiles carriages and many other vehicles on display you are sure to have a most
memorable visit when you experience this
Christchurch attraction.
